Week 4: Consent and Sexual Assualt

This week’s theme was to focus on sexual assault and using the case of Steubenville as an example.

We asked about and discussed the definition of “sexual assault” and what the term includes. We also introduced the legal term of “consent,” which sparked a lot of questions among the players. There was an unclear understanding of what consent is, which was confirmed when we did an activity with the players. Each player had a scenario and the group had to decide if it was consensual or not.

I think it was great that we brought up the topic, especially when we told the players about DC laws. At the end of the class, I believe that the players were more aware of the law on sexual assault and consent.
